Cavity-Free Smiles Start Here

Growing smiles look great at every stage of development; however, your child’s teeth and gums need proper care if they’re to remain healthy, strong, and intact moving forward. Failing to visit the dentist’s office regularly (twice a year) can result in cavities, tooth decay, gum disease, and more. This is why we schedule biannual dental checkups and cleanings in Riverton. If your child has yet to visit the dentist this year, please do not hesitate to call the office when you’re ready to schedule an appointment.

Why are Regular Dental Checkups & Cleanings Important?

Keeping your child’s pediatric dental checkups and cleanings every six months can help them stay on the right path to a healthier smile. Skipping these appointments will only increase their chances of dental decay, cavities, and more. There are two reasons why you should not allow your child to miss these visits:

  • Our dentist can use these visits as a way to prevent problems before they start. By removing plaque and tartar buildup, we can help your child avoid gum disease and other common oral health issues.
  • Our dentist can also administer timely restorative treatment should it be required. For example, if your child arrives with a decayed or damaged tooth, our team can apply a dental filling or crown, depending on the severity of the issue. This lowers their chance of needing more complex care in the future (i.e., root canal, tooth extraction).

What to Expect During a Dental Checkup

When bringing your child in for a pediatric dental checkup, you can expect us to not only inquire about their oral and overall health, but also:

  • Perform an oral examination that includes looking at their teeth, gums, bite, and existing dental restorations (i.e., fillings, crowns, etc.). We’ll also check for abnormalities that could indicate cancer.
  • Complete dental X-rays to ensure we have the most updated images to review.
  • Develop a treatment plan that addresses problem areas, if there are any.
  • Answer any questions about treatment, the state of your child’s oral health, and additional concerns you might have.

What to Expect During a Dental Cleaning

At-home brushing and flossing are necessary if good oral hygiene is to be maintained. However, the instruments they use at home can only do so much. By allowing a member of our dental team to conduct a professional teeth cleaning on your child’s smile, it will give them a better chance of making it through the year without cavities.

Not only will our hygienist perform a deep cleaning to remove all plaque and tartar, but we’ll also polish the surfaces of your child’s teeth, floss between each tooth to ensure no bacteria remain, and, if preferred, we can also apply fluoride to protect against decay and future cavities.
